Population

South Africa has a population of approximately 45 million people of diverse origin, belief, ethnicity, language and culture. The majority of the people are Black (80%), followed by Whites (9%), Coloureds (9%), and Indians (2%). English is a compulsory school subject until grade 12, and is therefore widely spoken throughout the country.

Weather

South Africa is known for its sunshine, and the country's rainfall is relatively low, with an average annual rainfall of about 464mm. The Western Cape, home of Sonqua, gets most of its rainfall in winter, with hot dry summers.

Summer:December to February:77 — 95 °F (25 to 35 °C)
Fall:March to May:61 — 77 °F (16 to 25 °C)
Winter:June to August:37 — 66 °F (3 to 19 °C)
Spring:September to November:66 —75 °F (19 to 24 °C)

Driving

In South Africa, cars are right hand drive, and people drive on the left side of the road. Foreign visitors are allowed to drive in South Africa, provided that they are in possession of a valid international driver's license, which should be obtained in their country of origin. Most major international car rental companies have offices in South African cities.

Medical

South Africa has numerous world class private medical facilities in its urban areas. Most private hospitals have 24 hour emergency services, which include the availability of medical specialists.
