SONQUA'S PEOPLE
Marlene Bossett
Marlene was the business representative on the South African Commission for Employment Equity — a statutory body advising
the South African Minister of Labour on Employment Equity and Affirmative Action — from 2005 to 2007. She was the head of
Public Affairs for the Sanlam Financial Services Group for two and a half years, and was responsible for the company's
transformation initiative for five years prior to that. Before joining the corporate world in 1997, Marlene was
the Torture and Captivity project manager for Cape Town based Trauma Centre for Victims of Violence and Torture,
providing mental health services to ex-political prisoners and people who were tortured by the apartheid regime.
She is currently a member of Cape Town Tourism, the US based African Travel Association and other relevant forums,
and is a registered tour guide.
Employees
The majority of Sonqua's employees is Black and previously disadvantaged. All grew up on the
Cape Flats and surrounding townships, and overcame enormous obstacles to get an education and succeed.
All have extra-ordinary life stories, a zest for life and are highly skilled. |
